my sister recently asked me to put together a ” kid’s wardrobe must haves” post for her to help stock her children’s closets with the basics. so i did what any thirty -two year old mother would do and pulled out the “how-to” fashion book i made for teenagers when i was seventeen, because i was a giant tool like that. surprisingly i found most of my must have info from 98′ still applies. i chalk that victory up to my platform sneaker wearing, dark lipliner loving, trend seeking younger self’s more practical side. hidden underneath all that overly tanned skin.
a child’s wardrobes is ever changing. it is fun to be trendy but there are some pieces that i always keep on hand in their wardrobe. they make dressing and layering simple and seamless.
this is the first item every wardrobe, every girl (and some boys) should have, a DENIM TOP.
why do i advocate denim so much? the same reason a good pair of blue jeans is on the list…it goes with everything, making it super simple for kids to grab and go. we keep the denim jacket downstairs on her hook for that very reason.
right now you can find denim shirts which are so great for layering because you can use them as outerwear or layered on under tees and sweaters. if you are having a hard time finding one in the girl’s section, don’t forget to look at the boy’s department.
i caught ruby, reading in one of her favorite corners of the house in her denim on denim…
you can find denim in every price range. here are some great options…
